About NIT Rourkela

National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) is one of the premier national level institutions for technical education in India, funded by the Government of India. It is recognized as an Institute of National Importance.

Established as Regional Engineering College, Rourkela in 1960, the institution was granted deemed university status in 2002 and was renamed as National Institute of Technology Rourkela. Spread over 262 hectares of land, the campus is located in the mineral-rich region of Odisha, providing an ideal environment for academic and research activities.

The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in various disciplines of engineering, science, and management. Admission Process

Undergraduate Admissions

Admission to B.Tech programs is through JEE (Main) followed by JoSAA counseling. 50% seats are reserved for home state (Odisha) candidates.

Postgraduate Admissions

M.Tech admissions are based on GATE scores. MBA admissions require CAT/MAT/XAT scores followed by group discussion and personal interview.

Doctoral Admissions

Ph.D admissions are based on written test and interview conducted by respective departments. NET/GATE qualified candidates are exempted from written test.

  • B.Tech Applications: January 15 - April 15, 2024
  • M.Tech/MBA Applications: February 1 - March 31, 2024
  • Ph.D Applications: Rolling admissions (Four cycles per year)
